What fun is it to be rich and famous and a movie star and have a birthday “week” instead of just a birth “day”. Well, you can, if you are Katie Holmes and have Tom Cruise as your husband It seemed that the couple with their kids have been celebrating her birthday week even before it started.

Holmes whose birthday was on 18 December, celebrated her 30th birthday onstage performing in a Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. Tom Cruise, who couldn’t be there, was reported as having arranged a specially-made five-tiered, white-frosted, circular birthday cake wheeled out on stage after the curtain fell.

“I planned it so that when she comes out for the standing ovation, John [would] get the whole audience to wish her a happy birthday,” Cruise – who was in Los Angeles to premiere his new film, Valkyrie – told PEOPLE, just as the surprise was sprung.

Now that’s what I call a birthday surprise.
